Experts Debate Legalized Marijuana

A panel met in Houston Texas at Rice University grapple with how marijuana legalization might look.rnrn

Earlier this week, televangelist Pat Robertson said adults should be able to buy marijuana just like they buy alcohol. But the devil’s in the details. And on Friday at Rice University, experts grappled with how legalization might look. “If we are going to legalize, and it looks like we will in at least some states, we’ve got a lot of details to work out,” said Dr. William Martin, a professor emeritus at Rice. Namely, exactly how to move marijuana – and possibly other drugs – from the black market to the open market.

I personally fight the penmeclat of alcohol near displays for minors. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Marijuana is dangerous over the long term, and when mixed with driving is as dangerous as drunk driving. As conveniently omitted by Gogek, the article actually reads that marijuana stores are required by the city ordinance to be at least 600 ft from one another, unlike with beer and liquor stores. Seems like we aren’t just talking about penmeclat near minors. The fact is that the City Council of San Diego has been trying to significantly reduce if not eliminate all pot stores. Marijuana is far less impairing than alcohol, the latter of which can kill you if you drink too much. People under the influence of marijuana are far less inclined to get behind the wheel than alcohol abusers with their reckless abandonment, so no they are not equally dangerous. When we have so many children violently abused today by alcoholic parents and marriages on the rocks (no pun intended) because of alcohol, I certainly don’t believe we should be driving more people in our society to drink.
