Medical Marijuana Users And Dogs Reined In By East Bay Regional Park Board
Medical pot users must not light up within 1,000 feet of camps, beaches and picnic areas
Medical marijuana users now need to take a hike away from picnic areas, camp sites, swim beaches and tot lots if they want to light up in East Bay Regional Park recreation areas.
Responding to complaints that some pot users puff away near children and families, the East Bay Regional Park board agreed Tuesday to outlaw medical marijuana use within 1,000 feet of developed recreation areas. Parent complaints weren’t the only reason cited for the restriction. Park officials said they worry park users’ getting high near swim lakes and reservoirs creates unacceptable risks of drowning. In their initial proposal, park administrators proposed banning any pot smoking in all 65 regional parks in Contra Costa and Alameda counties.
