The sponsor of a state Senate bill in Michigan is looking to outlaw the use of medical marijuana by glaucoma patients.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed papers Wednesday to end its battle against a Livonia Michigan ordinance that bans marijuana growing and other operations that violate federal law.

Just as state lawmakers move toward voting on bills to tighten regulation of medical marijuana, a legalization advocate has planned an event in Detroit that critics say points at abuses of medicinal pot.

Keith Lambert, co-owner of the OM of Medicine dispensary at 112 S. Main St. in Ann Arbor, is chafing under scrutiny of City Attorney Stephen Postema’s office.

The free event took place from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Ionia County ISD East Campus, hosted by the Ionia County Substance Abuse Initiative. Kenneth Stecker of the Prosecuting Attorney Association of Michigan was there to present the information and answer questions attendees had concerning individual cases.

A provision of the Michigan medical marijuana law that prohibits police from seizing pot possessed by licensed medical marijuana patients is invalid because it conflicts with federal law, Attorney General Bill Schuette said.

Sixty-five percent of those were in favor of amending the Kalamazoo city charter so that the use of an ounce or less of marijuana by any one 21 years or older is the lowest priority of law enforcement.rnrn
