Those Interested In Growing Hemp Learn Grass Is Greener On The Other Side
The politics of war with the drug czar and the federal government on producing industrial hemp
Farmers from all over Baca County came to the Gem Theater in Walsh, Colo., for a presentation, organized by local resident Diane Irwin, on industrial hemp farming. Hemp is a very useful fiber and grain crop that was grown here since before America was founded. Unfortunately, hemp was made illegal in 1937 under the guise of marijuana. It has been legal to grow industrial hemp in the United States, but only if you can acquire a permit from the DEA. Obtaining this license is virtually impossible due to the subjective opinions of the Drug Czar who has no scientific or logical fact based in their reasoning to label hemp the way they have.
